SUZY VAUGHAN

Suzy Vaughan has more than thirty years of experience in obtaining rights and permissions for feature films, television programs, music programs, and award shows.  She also prepares copyright and title searches, legal opinions and script clearance reports for errors & omissions insurance and is recommended by most insurance companies.

​

Born in San Antonio, Texas, she graduated from high school at sixteen years old and at nineteen years old from the University of Texas at El Paso with a B.A. in Theatre, cum laude. She then attended the Stanford University master’s degree program in theatre on a Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship.

Once out of grad school, she discovered that acting was not necessarily the most marketable skill, so she spent several years as a technical writer at various aerospace corporations in Northern California. During that period she also received an M.A. in English Literature from San Jose State University.

​

Suzy eventually relocated to Los Angeles, where she ended up at Entertainment Tonight, at which time she was introduced to clearance and rights & permissions.  She then freelanced for five years, working on such programs as Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous, Foul-ups Bleeps and Blunders various Motown specials and award shows.

​

In 1988, when she decided to go to law school, she founded her own company, handling clearance for projects for such diverse clients as Barbra Streisand, Michael Jackson, Motown, among many others. During her education at Loyola Law School as a night student while overseeing her company of thirteen employees, she enabled her two children to graduate from the University of Southern California.  

​

She continues to run Clearance Unlimited, previously known as Suzy Vaughan Associates, as well as her acting and writing careers.  She appears in numerous films and has also worked at the Attic Theatre, Jewel Box Theater and the Knightsbridge theatre companies.  A screenwriter, having graduated from the UCLA Professional Screenwriting Program, she is a produced playwright as well.  Suzy has also written and published several books and currently oversees a staff of seven.
